An out of hours reference service is available called Chasing the Sun. The aim of this service is to put you in contact with a librarian when you need some urgent help in finding database information after hours. The service makes use of time zone differences between countries, so that a librarian who is at work in the United Kingdom will be able to answer your query.

Hitting the Headlines is produced for the NHS by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemenation at the University of York and offers an analysis of the evidence behind selected health stories reported in national newspapers. Summaries of news stories are posted within 48 hours of newspaper publication to ensure that health professionals and the public are better informed about the accuracy of reporting of research in the press.

The Library has purchased online access to many more books and journals for 2006. The MD Consult collection has been bought and many of the StatRef book titles. MD Consult includes many journal titles, including all of the Clinics series, and many online books. The latest list (December 2005) of print resources purchased for the collection may be viewed on the intranet.
The Library has purchased a SMAHS wide license to EndNote 9 bibliographic management software. This can be used in conjunction with the databases to create personalised libraries of references from citations download and imported into EndNote. The Library staff is preparing some educational / orientation sessions on EndNote for the first quarter of 2006.
