Research Information

"In September 2004, the members of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) published a joint editorial aimed at promoting registration of all clinical trials. We stated that we will consider a trial for publication only if it has been registered before the enrolment of the first patient. This policy applies to trials that start recruiting on or after July 1, 2005. Because many ongoing trials were not registered at inception, we will consider for publication ongoing trials that are registered before September 13, 2005."

EndNote in WA Health

The WA Health Libraries Network (WAHLiN) has purchased a WA Health-wide EndNote licence. It may be installed at any of the sites included in the licence. If your site is not listed, and the licence will be amended with the supplier.

EndNote version X3 and EndNote Web are available for use. Earlier versions should be uninstalled . Your PC must have the XP operating system and MS Office 2003 at minimum. Please if you have any problems (or phone 9431 2563). Information is available on the proxy settings that must be set in order to use the Find Full Text functionality.

EndNote X3 (aka 13)

EndNote X3 is software that is loaded on your work PC. The EndNote site has more information about the functionality of the software.

EndNote is a database for storing and managing your references (including PDF copies of articles or web links to sites).
EndNote is a tool for creating bibliographies in documents (it works with Microsoft Word).
EndNote is an online search tool.
EndNoteWeb is a means to collaborate and share your references.

Any EndNote database libraries that you create are stored on your PC or group drives. Once set up on your PC you may also establish an EndNote Web account.

New Features of X3.0.1

EndNote X3.0.1 includes the following improvements. The University of Queensland Library website has more detail on the new features.

* Numbered citation ranges display properly for pairs and groups of multiple citations such as [1, 2] and [3-8].
* Improved Find Full Text support for proxy-modified URLs from link resolvers, more robust file type identification and better DOI recognition.
* Direct export now supports formatted text when available from the data provider.
* New "Lost and Found" Group helps identify custom groups updated from EndNote X2 libraries.
* Includes the new APA 6th edition output style. Learn more.
* Cite While You Write in OpenOffice.org Writer 3
o Use Cite While You Write menus and toolbars.
o Improved handling of inserted page numbers, prefix and suffix information.
* Library summary now includes Smart Groups.
* Select a Group set in the Compressed Library utility.
* Improved sorting on the library window and Cite While You Write dialogs.

EndNote and Abbreviated Journal Titles

The University of Queensland Library website has a solution to the problem of imported records which lack the full journal names. This is done by importing their Medical Journals Term List and changing your EndNote preferences. If the UQ Term List is imported, note also the requirement to use the UQ filter to ensure the records are imported with the abbreviated and full title details.

EndNote Web

EndNote Web provides the advantage of being able to use your EndNote libraries from anywhere in the world. Your EndNote libraries are stored on the EndNote server and you must login to MyEndNote Web. EndNote Web is also your best option if it is impossible to upgrade your operating system and version of MS Office. The full functionality of Cite-While-You-Write cannot be used unless you have MS Office 2003 at minimum on your PC.

You must register to use EndNote Web from this link but after that you can access your EndNote Libraries from anywhere (as long as you reconnect at least once a year from this authentication-embedded link).

If you are offsite, you will need to download the installation files from the EndNote site.

Do you need training or help?

Contact the Library for training and support in use of EndNote.

The EndNote Manual is installed with the program and is very comprehensive.

The EndNote website has training materials available online.

The EndNote User Forums are a very useful means to solve problems.
